People - Influences

Jeremy Rosen
Jeremy Rosen was headmaster of Carmel College, my secondary school. His inspiration, liberalism, questioning orthodoxy and urge to free thinking persists as a daily influence on my life.

Sonya Sabel

“The holy goddess Sabel”, as she was known, has been a challenge and inspiration to me and many of her students beyond her untimely death. She taught French at Carmel and an endless questioning outside lesson time. I miss you.

Ron and Mary Evans
They were my patient and determined Maths teachers at Carmel. They encouraged me to learn and love mathematics and the meaning of numbers. Mary Evans taught me the method of the Rough Estimate.
